Model Resolution for Christian Faith Groups
Many Christian denominations and congregations have annual conference assemblies where resolutions can be presented and approved. This is an important process–when a faith organization passes a gun violence prevention resolution we know we can count on the support of their leadership at the Capitol.
Protect Minnesota encourages most of our Christian members* to introduce this model resolution for passage in their faith groups’ assemblies. It can be “softened” by deleting the bracketed phrase. This resolution is not very specific because experience has shown that general statements in support of gun violence prevention bills and opposing the weakening of state gun laws are easier to pass and allow greater flexibility.
*Please note that the Episcopal Church in Minnesota and the St. Paul Area Synod of the ELCA have already adopted strong gun violence prevention resolutions. We advise members of those organizations NOT to introduce this model resolution in 2018 because there is no need–their leadership is already on board and partnering with Protect Minnesota.
